YDAA control the fishing on the right bank from Naburn Weir to the Old Salmon Hut, and three further sections marked by posts with yellow tips. This is a long way! Night fishing is not allowed. Day tickets are not available as this is a member’s only water.
Parking is available just through the gate and when the hay has been cut – usually by late July. Cars can be taken down the riverside track AT YOUR OWN RISK after the grass has been cut.
Beware the water is tidal and can the water level can rise very quickly.
The weir pool its self can produce excellent catches of all species. Roach and skimmer bream can be caught on a feeder with maggot or caster, and the weir pool holds specimen chub, barbel and even river carp. Occasional Salmon have been seen. This really is a mixed fishery.
Once away from the weir pool excellent catches of quality roach can be taken on maggot or hemp and caster all year round. Constant changes to the depth of the float are needed and the angler will be busy moving up or down with the tide. Feeder produces barbel, bream and catches of silver fish.
Travelling from York, leave the city using the A64 to Leeds. Turn off either for Bishopthorpe or Copmanthorpe then follow the signs to Acaster Malbis.
Once in the village follow either Intake or Mill Lane until a sharp bend is approached where you will find a slipway into the river.
Turn off the main road and follow the track downstream past the slipway and moorings until you come to a gated access, at the Top off the Weir. Parking is just inside the gate.
