From Fleet Beck, to access stile and stile to notice board above the weir. Approximately one mile. Day tickets are available from the usual outlets, and night fishing is allowed by prior arrangement via the Waters Secretary. Occasional small club matches are held in summer months. Note the track to river bank is rough so drive slowly, close gate at entry at ALL times i.e. on arrival and departure.
A challenging ‘Mr Crabtree’ mixed fishery, which has produced barbel and chub to specimen size, noted for good early season bags of dace to float fishing tactics.
Roach, dace, chub, gudgeon, perch and pike are the predominate species with the addition of occasional barbel, bream, grayling and trout. Big fish respond to big baits with good mixed catches to maggot or caster.
Deeper swims downstream of stile entry point regularly produce sizeable pike in winter.
Take the B1224 (Wetherby) road from York, turning right to Tockwith at the “Sun Inn”. Through Tockwith, turn right into Fleet Lane (restrict speed on this lane), to the entrance to Skewkirk Hall. A track on the left leads down to a bridge, where there is a gate on the left, before the beck. Go through this gate and follow the track to a small parking area on the left. From here walk forward along the hedge to the end, then diagonally across the field, through crops to the stile. (Approximately 150 yards below the “rookery” on the opposite bank).
