It is very disturbing to hear that a Mitten Crab was caught recently by a General Purposes Committee member whilst fishing at Stamford Bridge. These crabs seem to have joined the ever-present growing problem of Signal Crayfish and we can only hope that the resident Otters prefer them to fish.

Please remember our Bailiffs and Committee members are all volunteers that do not get paid and are not ‘on call’ 24/7. Similarly, our Facebook page and website message facility are not monitored 24/7. We do usually respond in a reasonable time, but we cannot monitor these systems constantly.

There have been reports of this activity at Fulford and Acaster by persons using multiple rods and also ‘set lines’ on the Selby Canal. Anyone considering challenging/engaging with these people should firstly consider their own safety, but should call the Environment Agency on 0800 80 70 60 for them to take appropriate action.
