Villa Farm Pond

Originally a commercial venue, the YDAA now has the lease for what is known as “Villa Farm Pond” just outside of York. The pond is just over 1 acres with a small island at one end. The banks are flat and pegs easily accessible, with a few having platforms.

Species & Tactics

The pond is predominantly stocked with common and mirror carp in the 3lb-6lb bracket, but there are reports of double figure specimens being present. A good head of roach, rudd, and perch. As you can only fish with rod and reel (see rules below), waggler, pellet waggler and running method feeder tactics are the order of the day.

Venue rules

Fishing from 07.30 to sun set.
Gate to be closed and locked after entry and exit.
No speeding down the track to the lake.
Park at right angles in the designated parking areas.
DO NOT DRIVE ACROSS THE GRASS.

  • No Keepnets.
  • All Landing nets MUST be dipped in the tanks before fishing.
  • No fish to be handled no more than 2 feet from the ground at any time.
  • All fish must be lifted from water with a landing net – one landing net per peg.
  • All fish MUST be returned to the water. If this is not adhered to PROSECUTION will take place without exception.
  • MATTS must be used for large fish.
  • Barbless Hooks (Max size 10)
  • Maximum strength line 10lb,
  • No method feeders, fixed feeders or leads. Rigs must be free to run on the line.
  • All fish must be handled with care and consideration.
  • Fish should not be retained by any method or for photographs for more than 10 minutes.
  • Angler s can only fish with one rod and line from a marked peg.
  • No poles or whips are allowed at any time.
  • No angler under 12 allowed on this water. No dogs except assistance dogs.

Banned baits:

  • Sweet corn.
  • Peanuts.
  • Tiger nuts.
  • Cat and Dog food.
  • No floating baits.

Directions

The pond is situated just north of the ring road on the Wigginton Road on the right-hand side as you leave the city. Heading down the B1363 go past the ‘Web Adventure Park’ on the right hand side just after the ring road roundabout, travel for about 1/2 mile and the pond entrance is on the right, just passed the entrance to ‘Willow Farm Cafe’.
