POCKLINGTON CANAL. A bailiff approached an angler fishing the marina at Melbourne and asked for his credentials. Said angler refused to produce these, stating that he was not fishing York waters, as he was beyond the notice-board on the tree. Consideration was given to the report from the bailiff and it was felt that it was the responsibility of British Waterways to police this marina.
WIDDINGTON. Questions have been raised about the parking here. Approach the water, turning right behind the bungalow, thence to the gate with the York board on it. Park on the right hand side of the track in the vicinity of the "big tree". Approach the water through the gate. For those who night fish here, please respect the owner of the bungalow. Reports are to hand of anglers 'passing' in the early hours, waking his dogs, whose barking then wakes him. Not conducive to good relationships!! It is understood that a gate is to be fixed at the bungalow, and that it will be locked at 22:00 hours (10 p.m.). Once you're in, you're in!!!! In cases of nights being 'light' until up to eleven o'clock, for those anglers fishing into the dusk hours from the day, then in that case also, once you're in, you're in.
NIGHT FISHING (Where allowed). Members are reminded that all applications to fish at night (apart from Park View Lake), should be made to the Waters Secretary, giving name, book number, when and where required to fish prior to going the selected venue.
SUTTON-ON-DERWENT. Due to the bridge being damaged, an offer has been made to the East Riding County Council for them to use, if necessary, our car park at the venue for storage of materials and equipment, etc .. Members are asked to 'keep an eye' on it when passing and report any such usage.
CLAXTON POND. Reports are to hand of a successful session here, after the ice was broken, during which a number of quality Roach were caught, along with four Pike to 14 pounds. Investigations are still being carried out by your Committee to establish the quality of the water and fishing at this venue.
FULFORD. As reported in the last Newsheet, regarding the trimming of trees at Stamford Bridge, this has been undertaken in recent weeks (flooding allowing), and it is proposed that similar works will be carried out on the Fulford stretches, down to the bottom of the Palace Ings.
HEMINGBROUGH POND. Members will be pleased to note that a considerable amount of work has been put in here by a Committee member and the pond is now more accessible. However, there remains a large amount of work to do before it is pristine again.
ANNUAL INSPECTION. Three of the Trustees spent a day visiting various waters starting at Widdington (see item above), then going to the Layboume Complex where a great deal of work has been done at Brown's Pool where further attention given has resulted in the removal of the reed mace (bulrushes). On then, to Sand Hutton Gravel Pits, where it was noted that work has commenced on the wormery, with certain parts of it causing some concern. Approaches to those responsible have been made. Park View Lake was the next port of call where much work has been done, the brambled area at both sides of the entrance track being cleared and levelled. Peg 3 has been cleaned and deepened, but the platform needs rebuilding. Other causes for concern were looked at with a view for remedial action being taken. Finally, a visit to Stamford Bridge to assess the improvements due to tree trimming along the banks.
