Canals

The YDAA has fishing access to numerous sections on three local canals. Click the various links to get more details on each fishery, view some members pictures, or download a factsheet to print-off at home. The factsheets are in Adobe PDF format, and you will have to install Adobe Acrobat Reader to view them on your PC. To do so, if it is not already installed, click on the button at the bottom of the page and follow the on screen instructions.

Key : MOW = Members Only Water, DTW = Day Ticket Water, NFA = Night Fishing Allowed

Aire & Calder Canal
(DTW)

The canal is generally around 30 metres wide, and has an average depth of 12 feet in the main boat channel, although this shallows to between 6-9ft nearer the bank. The main target species are roach and skimmers, with large bags (30lb +) possible on a good day.

Pocklington Canal
(DTW)

The Pocklington Canal is a relatively broad canal which runs for 9.5 miles through nine locks from the Canal Head near Pocklington, to the River Derwent which it joins near East Cottingwith. Tench and roach are the most common species and both run to a reasonable size. There are plenty of pike, mostly jacks though occasionally fish running well into double-figures are caught.

Selby Canal
(DTW)

The YDAA controls the stretch of canal from Selby "Basin" to Brayton Bridge, a distance of approximately two miles. The main target species are roach, and skimmers with bags of over 20lb recorded. Good numbers of tench are present along with perch and to a lesser extent eels, carp, chub and rudd. Good numbers of pike of all sizes are resident throughout the stretch.
